Basel becomes a city – architecture around 1900

Basel awakens. The point of departure is the intense push towards modernisation related to the Industrial Revolution experienced by Basel before and around1900. Its focus lies in the city centre at the Schifflände, Marktplatz, Rümelinsplatz and Freie Strasse, where the most important new buildings by significant architects arose, and follows the axis from Maitligymnasium to the Paulus quarter.
